Our Past, Present & Future
- Northgate Square was originally built in 1961 as a 100,000 square foot strip-shopping centre anchored by Loblaws and Woolworths.
- In 1980 the mall was enclosed and expanded by 275,000 square feet, creating room for more stores and a 130,000 square foot Woolco store.
- In 2000 the mall expanded again and Wal-Mart (formerly Woolco) relocated to their current location at the north end of the mall. A 500 seat Food Court was also added to the centre.
- In 2001 Sears opened in their current location and in 2002 with the expansion complete, Northgate Shopping Centre celebrated their Grand Opening.
- Northgate is currently managed by Morguard Investments Limited, one of Canada's leading property management firms.
- Northgate now offers over 100 stores with a unique mix of both national retailers such as Wal-Mart, Sears, Future Shop, The Gap, American Eagle Outfitters, The Boathouse, West49, Le Chateau, English Butler, La Senza Girl as well as independent retailers such as Vested Interest, Dawson Shoes, Leathers by Marie Leblanc and more.
